Small Rental Housing Providers (RHPs) are property owners that rent out units they own. Statistics for this group of landlords in Ontario (our core jurisdiction) and in Canada are a challenge to narrow down for a variety of reasons. Small RHPs are not a recognized group to census takers or the LTB. For that reason, census data rarely tells an accurate story. A 2021 Toronto census describes rental properties as 48% percent of private households, and rental properties as 34% of the Greater Toronto area. ¹
